Newnes - Capertee Overnight Tour
Day 1:
If “Adventurous” is your middle name then this is the weekend for you. We meet at the Zig Zag Railway in the Blue Mountains and straight away leave the tar behind. To start off we visit a little known quarry for some stall recovery and side slope practise before we tackle anything too serious. This will also give us an opportunity to have some morning tea and have a quick look at the advantages and disadvantages of the varying vehicles that we will have on this trip. We head to the western side of the forest where we will encounter our first descent and first set of rock steps. Next we pass the coal mines and discover a track that’s really going to test your wheel placement. We head down Blackfellow’s Hand Trail after lunch for a spectacular drive through ancient rock formations and finish up at Newnes at around 3:30pm. This allows Plenty of time to setup camp, take a stroll around the town’s ruins and maybe even have a splash in the creek. Don’t forget a nice cold beer.
Day 2:
After waking to the call of the local birdlife it’s time to pack up camp and head to Sunny Corner. On the way there will be plenty of opportunity for anyone who needs to refuel before we venture into the pine forest. Here our terrain becomes very hilly as we climb to spectacular lookouts before descending into challenging valleys full of creeks, rivers and hungry wheel ruts. This will be a very scenic day with something for everyone. After lunch there will be an interesting optional extra before slowly meandering down to the Turon River for a splash (during the summer months) in the creek. The tour ends in the old town of Capertee where a good yarn is often told at the end of a fun day in the Capertee Pub.
