Hill End, Sofala & Capertee Overnight Tour
Step back in time as we take a scenic drive through the historic areas of Hill End and Sofala. Imagine how life must have been over 100 years ago when men and horses had to push through this harsh mountainous country. Experience gold fever as we cross many of the rivers where whole families crouched day in day out panning for gold. We travel the legendary bridal track before arriving in Hill End for a guided town tour and later share a few good yarns around the campfire.
In the morning we depart for Sofala. A town where time has stood still and gives you a great idea of how this once bustling town looked in the late 1800’s. We follow the Cox’s River towards Capertee crossing it many times. Even though this area is only a couple of hours out of Sydney you will think you’re in the middle of nowhere. This is a great trip for anyone looking to get away for the weekend and the best thing is, you can do it all in a standard four wheel drive. A wide variety of accommodations options are available from camping, cabins or even spend the night in a restored train carriage.
Requirements:
- No experience necessary as guidance will be given on the day.
- This tour is suitable for both Four Wheel and All Wheel Drive Vehicles.
- Front and rear rated recovery points
- A tyre gauge.
- A UHF Radio. Speak to our office about hiring one if needed.
- Tyres with at least 50% tread.
Meals: BYO (A camp oven cooking demonstration will be shown on Saturday night weather permitting).
Fuel: A full tank from Bathurst will be fine.
